Steamy Winter Warm-Ups
Baby, it's cold outside. Surprise your friends and delight your taste buds with a hot specialty drink. It's just the thing for après ski or winding down by a roaring fire. The flavor of Mom's Hot Cocoa will bring back memories of sledding and snowball fights, and Tibetan Tea is my version of a richly spiced chai latte.

  Mom's Hot Cocoa

Time: 10 minutes

Servings: 4 mugs

Ingredients

1/2 cup Equal® Spoonful or 12 packets of Equal® sweetener
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup water
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* Optional: Marshmallows

Preparation

Stove Top Directions:


1. Mix Equal, cocoa powder, water and salt in a saucepan.
2. Stir constantly over medium heat until boiling and then stir for another minute.
3. Stir in the milk, but do not boil.
4. Remove from heat, add vanilla extract and stir well.
5. Serve immediately in mugs and top with marshmallows.

Microwave Directions:

1. Mix Equal, cocoa powder, water and salt in a microwave-safe bowl.
2. Heat in the microwave for approximately 90 seconds until boiling and then stir for a minute.
3. Stir in the milk.
4. Add vanilla extract and stir well.
5. Serve immediately in mugs and top with marshmallows.

  Tibetan Tea

Time: 20 minutes

Servings: 4 cups

Ingredients

2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
4-6 whole cloves
3 Earl Grey tea bags (or 2 tablespoons of loose black tea)
2cups 2% or whole milk
4 tablespoons Equal® Spoonful or 6 packets of Equal sweetener

* Optional: nutmeg

Preparation

1. Place water in a saucepan, add cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and cloves and bring to a boil.
2. Cover and reduce heat to a simmer for 10-12 minutes.
3. Remove from heat, add tea and let sit for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and pour through liquid strainer.
4. Add milk and return to heat but do not bring to a boil.
5. Stir in Equal and serve in cups.
6. Sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.
