Aunt Dort’s Mulled Wine

Mulled wine has been enjoyed for thousands of years, and it is a holiday tradition in many families. This recipe adds sweetness and spice to red wine. Recipe created by Tony Abou-Ganim, Modern Mixologist.

Ingredients

1 cup brewed lemon zinger herbal tea
1 lemon peel
1 orange peel
20 cloves
10 cinnamon sticks (4 for recipe, 6 for garnish)
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
2 cups Equal® Granular sweetener (Spoonful) or 48 packets Equal sweetener
1 bottle cabernet sauvignon
3/4 cup orange vodka

Preparation

  • Bring lemon zinger tea, lemon peel, orange peel, cloves, 4 cinnamon sticks, ground nutmeg and ground cardamom to a boil in a large saucepan.
  • Reduce heat, add Equal, and stir until Equal completely dissolves.
  • Add wine and orange vodka.
  • Simmer mulled wine uncovered for 20 minutes.
  • Serve in heated mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks.
