Ask Sara, the Equal Food Scientist

Q: I have a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old and I like to put Equal on their morning cereal instead of sugar. Is Equal safe for my kids to eat?

A: The sweetening agent in Equal is the most tested food ingredient in the history of the FDA; its safety has been repeatedly affirmed by regulatory agencies and respected health organizations worldwide over the last 20 years. Just to name a few, these organizations include: FDA, Canada's Health Protection Branch, World Health Organization, Scientific Committee on Food of the European Union, Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Medical Association, American Diabetes Association, and American Dietetic Association.

All of these organizations have recognized that Equal is safe for use by the general population, including people with diabetes, children, and pregnant and breast-feeding women.
