Is Equal Original safe? Yes, Equal is safe. Is Equal Original safe for diabetics? Equal is appropriate for use by individuals with diabetes. It is well tolerated by both those with insulin dependent and non-insulin dependant diabetes (type 1 and type 2). Does Equal Original have an expiration date? Equal has an indefinite shelf life if stored away from heat and humidity. To ensure the highest quality product, Equal products are now produced with a “Best By” date stamped on them. How safe is Equal Original compared to other sweeteners? Aspartame, the main sweetening ingredient in Equal Original, Equal Spoonful, and Equal Classic tablets, has been documented in more than 200 objective scientific studies. The safety of aspartame has been confirmed by regulatory authorities including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada, and the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Food, as well as by experts with the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization and World Health Organization. We recommend contacting the manufacturers of any other sweetener brands for their safety information. How do I get Equal recipes? Where can I find Equal in stores? Equal products are available at most grocery, club, and drug stores. The individual stores determine what specific products they stock. If you are looking for a particular Equal product and cannot locate it at your local store, we suggest that you speak to a store manager or fill out a consumer comment card requesting that the store stock this item again. The ingredients in Equal Original packets are dextrose with maltodextrin and the sweetening ingredients aspartame and acesulfame potassium. Equal Original packets: Equal Original granulated: Equal Classic tablets: Aspartame - a sweetening ingredient that is 200 times sweeter than sugar Acesulfame Potassium - a sweetening ingredient that is 200 times sweeter than sugar Dextrose with maltodextrin - added as a bulking agent to very concentrated sweeteners to make them easier to measure and pour Maltodextrin - fluffed up through a spray-dry process, is used as a bulking agent to very concentrated sweeteners to make it easier to measure like sugar Lactose - used as a bulking agent to very concentrated sweeteners as part of the tablet Cellulosegum - adds texture and volume to foods Calcium stearate - an ingredient to help with release of the tablet from the mold during manufacturing What is Acesulfame Potassium? Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-k) is a no-calorie sweetener that has been used in foods and beverages around the world for more than 20 years. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar and can retain its sweetness under normal baking temperatures. Acesulfame Potassium is not metabolized or stored in the body. Equal® SucraloseWhat are the ingredients in Equal Sucralose? Equal Sucralose uses the same sweetening ingredient as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener. The sweetening ingredient is sucralose. Dextrose with maltodextrin is added to make the potent sweetener easier to measure and pour. Does Equal Sucralose have the same ingredients as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener? Equal Sucralose uses the same sweetening ingredient as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener. Sucralose is made using a multi-step process that starts with ordinary table sugar (sucrose) and replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. This results in a stable sweetener that delivers a taste profile similar to sugar, but is calorie-free. Does Equal Sucrlaose taste similar to Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener? Yes. We’ve formulated the new Equal Sucralose with the same sweetening ingredient as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener. Is Sucralose safe? Like aspartame, sucralose has been the subject of more than 100 scientific studies. The safety of sucralose is well documented and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, along with international health and food safety organizations, have confirmed its safety. Sucralose is approved for use in more than 80 countries and can be found as the sweetener ingredient in more than 4000 food and beverage products. Does Equal Sucralose have an expiration date? Other ingredients are added such as, dextrose with maltodextrin, cream of tartar and calcium silicate to make the product easier to measure and pour. Does Equal Saccharin have the same ingredients as Sweet’N Low® zero calorie sweetener? Equal Saccharin uses the same sweetening ingredient as Sweet’N Low® zero calorie sweetener. Does Equal Saccharin taste similar to Sweet’N Low® zero calorie sweetener? Yes. We’ve formulated Equal Saccharin with the same sweetening ingredient as Sweet’N Low® zero calorie sweetener. What is dextrose with maltodextrin? Dextrose with maltodextrin is the bulking agent used in Equal NEXT. What is aspartame? The sweetening ingredient aspartame is a zero calorie sweetener. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar. The components in aspartame are similar to those found in everyday foods such as meat, milk, fruits and vegetables. What is sodium saccharin? The sweetening ingredient sodium saccharin is a zero calorie sweetener. It is 300 times sweeter than sugar. Saccharin is the oldest non-nutritive sweetener for food and beverage use. How many calories per packet of Equal® NEXT? Each packet of Equal NEXT has zero calories. How many grams of carbohydrate per packet of Equal® NEXT? Each packet of Equal NEXT contains less than one gram of carbohydrate. Why is dextrose with maltodextrin in the packet of Equal® NEXT? Dextrose with maltodextrin is added as a bulking agent to very concentrated sweeteners to make them easier to measure and pour. How sweet is each packet of Equal® NEXT? Each packet is as sweet as 2 teaspoons of sugar. Why did you choose to combine aspartame and saccharin to make Equal® NEXT? We continue to seek great tasting sweetener combinations and believe that Equal NEXT provides a sugar like taste. Doesn’t saccharin cause cancer? No. Extensive research has resulted in no evidence that saccharin causes cancer in humans. Why is there a statement on the Equal® NEXT packaging that says Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine? Since individuals with PKU must consider aspartame as an additional source of phenylalanine, aspartame-containing foods must state “Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine” in the U.S. Is Equal® NEXT suitable for people with diabetes? Yes. Equal is appropriate for use by individuals with diabetes. It is well tolerated by both those with insulin-dependent and non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 1 and type 2). Does Equal® NEXT contain gluten? No. Equal NEXT is appropriate for individuals following a gluten free lifestyle. Is Equal® NEXT kosher? Yes.
