Are Equal Classic and aspartame (the sweetening ingredient in Equal) safe?

Yes, Equal is safe.
Aspartame, the sweetening ingredient in Equal Classic has been documented in more than 200 objective scientific studies. The safety of aspartame has been confirmed by regulatory authorities in more than 100 countries, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada, and the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Food, as well as by experts with the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization and World Health Organization.

Is Equal Classic safe for diabetics?

Equal is appropriate for use by individuals with diabetes. It is well tolerated by both those with insulin dependent and non-insulin dependant diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2).
Equal is recognized as an acceptable part of a diabetes meal plan by both the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Does Equal Classic have an expiration date?

Equal has an indefinite shelf life if stored away from heat and humidity. To ensure the highest quality product, all Equal products are now produced with a “Best By” date stamped on them. The best by date will be 3 years from the date of production for products with aspartame and 2 years for products with acesulfame potassium.

What are the ingredients in Equal Classic and how is it made?

Equal Classic's sweetening ingredient is aspartame, which breaks down to components commonly found in milk, meats, fruits and vegetables. Other ingredients are added to make the very concentrated sweetener easier to measure and pour.

Equal® Sucralose

What are the ingredients in Equal Sucralose?

Equal Sucralose uses the same sweetening ingredient as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener. The sweetening ingredient is sucralose. Dextrose with maltodextrin is added to make the potent sweetener easier to measure and pour.

Does Equal Sucralose have the same ingredients as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener?

Equal Sucralose uses the same sweetening ingredient as Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener. Sucralose is made using a multi-step process that starts with ordinary table sugar (sucrose) and replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. This results in a stable sweetener that delivers a taste profile similar to sugar, but is calorie-free.

Equal Cyclamate uses the same sweetening ingredient as Sweet’N Low® zero calorie sweetener. The main sweetening ingredient is cyclamate – which has been available for almost 100 years. Other ingredients are added such as, dextrose with maltodextrin, cream of tartar and calcium silicate to make the product easier to measure and pour.
